Ferrari 812, the Special Version (or GTO), debuts on May 5

New spy photos of the supercar in disguise, while reliable sources speak of an imminent debut

The already announced Ferrari 812 Special Version, which could also be called 812 GTO, is ready for the official debut set next May 5. This juicy preview is given by a historic Ferrari connoisseur like Marcel Massini. From the pages of Ferrari Chat, he talks about a first presentation to customers on April 21 and a real revelation to the press for May 5, 2021.

To this new indication on the date of birth of the Ferrari 812 Special Version (VS abbreviation), there is also an unprecedented series of spy photos that show us a prototype covered with heavy masking panels. This may mean that, compared to the previous "stolen" images, the Modenese supercar has now assumed its definitive form and must therefore use fake fairings to hide from the world.

The latest naturally aspirated front-engined V12?

Even if there is no official confirmation from Ferrari, it is still a new and credible clue that adds to the video sent to a few potential customers which, on February 18 (date of birth of Enzo Ferrari), confirmed on Instagram the imminent arrival of the 812 "Special Version."

Doubts remain on the name that this highly anticipated variant of the Ferrari 812 Superfast will have, and the hypotheses are chasing each other on the web. Some swear that it will be called 812 GTO, a name suitable to celebrate what will probably be the last and most powerful (over 800 HP) of the Ferraris with a front aspirated V12 engine.

Daytona and Imola hypothesis

Among the other names candidates for the choice, there was also talk of the return of the Daytona appellation that has been missing for 48 years in the Ferrari range, from the last 365 GTB / 4 produced in 1973. Some hypothesize the use of the name of another circuit, such as Imola, which never appeared on the Rosse.

Within a few weeks, the mystery will be revealed, and we will know if the few and lucky collectors from all over the world will be able to put in their garage a prodigious Ferrari 812 GTO and a Ferrari 812 Special Version. At the moment, it is not even known whether there will also be a version with a sunroof or an 812 VS Aperta.
