Tests continue on the German hybrid hypercar, which is derived from Lewis Hamilton's 2015 single-seater

The AMG department of Mercedes continues to develop the hypercar One. The project has been going on for several years now, and the German manufacturer has only begun to reveal some of its secrets in the last few months. The first hypercar signed by AMG has returned to be seen in its "natural habitat," that is, the Nurburgring circuit, where the test drivers are taking it to the limit of its capabilities.

It "eats" the curves.

The Mercedes-AMG One looks just right in the corners of Green Hell. Several photos show her in the passages of the Carosello curve, one of the most iconic of the whole circuit. Here the One shows itself in all its aggressiveness with wide shapes, substantial air intakes, and shallow ground clearance.

The hypercar has a strong link with the Formula 1 single-seater driven by Lewis Hamilton. Specifically, under the hood of the One is a 1.6 V6 based on the 2015 F1 single-seater and capable of reaching 11,000 rpm.

The thermal unit works with four other electric motors and, although there is no official information yet, the total output is estimated to be over 1000hp.

From F1 to the road

As you can imagine, adapting the engine of a Formula 1 to a street-legal car is not easy. For this reason, the development of the One has been going on for over five years. Furthermore, the restrictions caused by Covid-19 have certainly not made the task of German engineers easier.

One of the biggest challenges in designing the One is that of engine cooling. They will not drive hypercar consistently at high speed, so it needs to work hard to improve reliability.

Once produced. However, the One will have few rivals on the track. We look forward to seeing you fight together to the next generation hypercar like Gordon Murray T.50s, Ferrari SF90, or Pagani Huayra R.

For the moment, however, we will still have to wait as Mercedes has not yet revealed the details on the official debut.
