2022 Volkswagen Polo, the restyling in Golf style

Volkswagen Polo, the restyling in Golf style

New front, redesigned rear, a lot more technology, and no diesel engines, but the methane version remains.

From the teaser published a few days ago, we understood that the Volkswagen Polo restyling would have taken some elements from the Golf; today, with the official photos - accompanied by all the information - we have confirmation.

Arriving in September, the little girl from Wolfsburg, in fact, with the restyling of the sixth generation, looks to her older sister, partly replicating its style and inheriting most of its technologies. A leap forward that brings the Polo 2021 to the level of direct competitors (Opel Corsa, Seat Ibiza, Peugeot 208, and Renault Clio) and higher segment models.

The heavily redesigned front immediately catches the eye, now crossed by a thin LED light strip that "breaks" at the height of the Volkswagen logo in the center of the grille. The optical groups, full LED as standard and available on request also with IQ. Light LED matrix technology and the bumper also benefit from the renovation.

The designers have also focused on the rear, with the lights now arranged on two levels and with a design in full Golf style, the bumper with renewed lines, and the new Polo logo in the center of the tailgate.

And if from the photos the Polo 2021 seems more significant to you, you are partly right: thanks to the wheelbase extended to 2.56 meters and the rest of the measurements remained unchanged (4.05 meters in length, 1.75 in width, 1.44 in height), the overhangs decrease and the little German gains a more massive and sporty look at the same time.

Volkswagen Polo 2021, the interior

Inside, the setting remains unchanged, but the technological equipment increases with 100% digital instrumentation (8 ") as standard on all versions and requests with a 10.25" monitor. At its side, once again in a raised position, the touch monitor reaches a diagonal of 9.2 "and is animated by the MIB3 software.

A connected system thanks to an integrated eSim, advanced voice commands, and much more. Of course, there is no lack of compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, even wirelessly. The air conditioning controls are also renewed, which, if you opt for the Climatronic system, abandon the physical buttons in favor of a backlit touch surface.

Driver assistance systems

From the Golf, the restyling Volkswagen Polo also inherits the IQ. Drive system, with Level 2 driving assistance systems that are part of the Travel Assist package, with adaptive and predictive cruise control, active lane maintenance, automatic emergency braking, and much more.

Goodbye diesel

With the restyling, the Polo, as is now increasingly the case in the B segment, leaves diesel engines on the road, keeping only petrol units or, in the case of the small German, even methane.

For the time being, the range relies solely on the 1.0-cylinder petrol engine available in the aspirated versions with 80 HP or TSI with 95 or 110 HP, which can be combined, depending on the power, with the five or 6-speed manual gearbox or the 7-speed automatic DSG double-clutch. The 90 HP 1.0 TGI powers the methane-powered Polo.

Other engines will also arrive in the future, but not electrified versions with mild hybrid systems or even more efficient solutions such as full or plug-in. Instead, there will be the Polo GTI, arriving at a later date and with a power exceeding 200 hp and only front-wheel drive as a choice.

And the electric pole? By now, we know well how Volkswagen's zero-emission range lives under the ID family, and therefore, a battery-powered Polo will not arrive. Still, there will be a younger sister of the ID.3 - probably called ID.2 - coming in the coming years along with others. Models on tap.

Volkswagen Polo restyling, equipment, and prices

The range has also changed, divided into the basic, Life, Style, and R-Line versions. Standard front and rear full LED lights, Lane Assist, central airbag, 8 "digital instrumentation, climate control and 6.5" primary monitor are available.

The Polo Life adds 15 "wheels, App-Connect, USB socket for rear passengers, and leather to cover the gear knob and steering wheel. At the top are the Style and R-Line trim levels, with different aesthetic features but almost identical equipment with LED matrix front lights, parking assist, 10.25 "digital instrumentation, 8" touch monitor, satellite navigator, and 15 "alloy wheels for the Style and 16" for the R-Line.

But how much does the Polo restyling cost? As for the prices, the official price list has not yet been communicated, but we know that the basic version will start from around 16,000 euros in Europe.
