BMW 2 Series Coupe New “M240i

High-performance "M performance" for BMW 2 series coupe ... 374 horsepower rear-wheel-drive model setting

BMW announced on May 18 that it will set the " M240i " in the European market in July as a high-performance rear-wheel-drive grade for the new " 2 Series Coupe ". Previously it was only 4WD, but 2WD (FR) will also be available.

◆ 0-100km / h acceleration is 4.7 seconds

The M240i's direct-injection 3.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder gasoline turbo engine was tuned exclusively by the M Performance Automobile. As a result, in the case of European specifications, a maximum output of 374hp / 5500-6500rpm and a maximum torque of 51kgm / 1900-5000rpm are obtained.

The transmission is an 8-speed AT "Steptronic Sport" with a paddle shift. The M240i runs through 0-100km / h acceleration in 4.7 seconds, and the limiter operates at a maximum speed of 250km / h. In the case of the 4WD "M240i xDrive", 0-100km / h acceleration in 4.3 seconds.

It will also be equipped with an "M Sport Brake" and 19-inch M aluminum wheels and tires. From city driving to the circuit, we take pride in responding to intuitive braking operations and demonstrating outstanding braking performance. The system has a sporty setup featuring short pedal strokes and clear pressure points. It is said that it has high resistance to heat during braking and realizes high braking ability.

In addition, the M-Sport brakes are equipped with front 4-piston fixed calipers and rear single-piston floating calipers designed with a more direct brake ratio and separate hydraulic circuitry.

◆ M Sports Differential

The suspension has double-joint spring struts on the front and 5 links on the rear. The "M Sport Differential" uses an electronically controlled step-less variable lock function integrated into the rear differential to improve traction and cornering performance. In addition, the active differential lock function has the effect of enhancing driving stability and agility.

The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system also limits the differential between the inner and outer rear wheels during cornering, optimizing the transmission of the driving force in all driving situations. The differential locking function generated by the electric motor allows the drive torque to be transferred from the faster wheel to the slower wheel.

For example, when traveling on a curve at high speed, and understeer tendency may occur. Therefore, the driving force that cannot be transmitted to the road surface of the wheel inside the curve that has lost grip and is slipping is intentionally distributed to the wheel outside the curve instead of operating the brake to neutralize it. .. By doing so, the vehicle dynamically enters the curve and the drive torque can be used for sporty driving.

◆ Enhanced body rigidity and suspension

While reducing the weight, the suspension mounting part and underframe have been strengthened, and a highly rigid body has been adopted. As a result, in addition to strengthening roll rigidity and sporty handling, safety performance in the event of a collision is also improved.

Moreover, the aluminum material was used not only for the bonnet but also for the engine carrier and the connection part of the engine carrier. This aims to achieve both the contradictory performance of strengthening body rigidity and reducing weight.

Furthermore, to realize high-dimensional driving dynamics that are typical of the M model, reinforcement has been added to the lower part of the front. The rear suspension mounting part is also reinforced to increase the torsional rigidity.
