The Chinese hypercar made in Motor Valley unveils in Shanghai

Called Hongqi S9, it bears the signature of Walter De Silva and is powered by a 1,400 hp hybrid powertrain for more than 400 km/h of speed

The first sighting of the Hongqi S9 dates back to 2019. Location: the Frankfurt Motor Show. It was there that the debut of what, on paper, should have become the most powerful, fastest, and most expensive Chinese car on the planet took place.

A revolutionary concept then returned to show itself a few months later at the 2020 Beijing Motor Show, once again as a prototype. Then from there, the silence, probably imposed by the pandemic that has disrupted the plans of almost all the companies in the world. But something was moving, and how it was moving.

From China to Italy

Fast forward to February 2021. Location: Motor Valley. The cradle of speed, home of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Pagani, and Ducati and ready to act as a home to the joint venture between FAW (Chinese car giant and owner of the Hongqi brand) and Silk EV, a company specializing in engineering and car design.

The series version of the Hongqi S9 will come to life from this new reality, which in the meantime has returned to show itself again at the Shanghai 2021 Motor Show. This time in a definitive capacity.

Author's exaggeration

A racing car that defines "extreme" is an understatement: V8 engine and total power of 1,400 hp, thanks to the help of a hybrid system. However, no technical specifications yet exist. Therefore, we must "settle" for the numbers: 400 km/h top speed and 0/100 km/h burned in just 1.9 ". A missile capable - at least on paper - of keeping all the next neighbors behind the house.

But a hypercar to be genuinely "hyper" must also have a particular style, designed not only to cut through the air as efficiently as possible but to turn the heads of anyone who meets it. The Hongqi S9 was entrusted to the pencil of Walter De Silva, director of design of the Silk-FAW.

We have wisely designed the shapes and surfaces to reach the maximum balance between aerodynamics, proportions, and beauty. No detail has been left to chance to complete the body shape of the Hongqi, S9, with an aesthetic language of essential and dynamic lines. The result reveals an athletic and timeless style that defines the essence of beauty.

Luxury and power

We do not know whether or not it will aspire to the title of " fastest car in the world "perhaps in an even more extreme version. Indeed, the Chinese hypercar with an Italian passport will aim to combine excellent performance with elegance and class, as is the brand's tradition, famous in China for its representative super sedans used by top Party leaders for parades and official celebrations.

Of the interior, you can only see a few frames in the video you find above. You can see minimal and high-tech furniture, with a monitor set in the center of the steering wheel and a thin tunnel between the two seats in which various physical buttons are placed.
